AIER Seminars

AIER is pleased to offer a platform for teachers, administrators, principals, and education researchers to debate educational issues at K-12 education.

The second seminar is offered by Dr. Ahmet Uludag, Director, Accord Institute of Education Research on January 26th 5 pm at Accord Institute of Education Research.

Exemplary High Schools

Abstract:  High Schools are institutions that are most difficult and challenging to reform compared to elementary and middle schools. The empirical research body on high schools is rather thin different from elementary and middle schools. Harvard economist and educator, Dr. Ron Ferguson's, recent research on leadership practices from 15 exemplary high schools provides practical best practices from the groundwork of high schools leaders and teachers. Join me to review some of the highlights from Dr. Ron Ferguson's research.

The first seminar was offered by Dr. Ertan Salik, Professor, Cal Poly Pomona.

Interactive Science Education

Abstract: In the recent decades, great progress has been achieved in science education. Especially, with the advance of novel technology tools, now students and the instructor can interact in meaningful and effective ways resulting in significant improvement in student learning. In this presentation, we will focus on "peer instruction," one of the interactive science education methods, pioneered by Harvard professor Eric Mazur. This presentation includes implementation of peer instruction with classroom response systems (clickers), too. We will also briefly talk about other interactive education methods, such as just in time teaching, and the physics education technology project initiated by Carl Weiman, Nobel Laureate in Physics who later dedicated himself to improving science education.
